Shifu

Shifu is cloth with Washi (Japanese traditional paper) with written poem(words)woven in.

From old times, there is cloth also called “Shifu” (same pronunciation but different Kanji with different meaning) which is woven from twisted Washi threads. I weave Shifu using the same skill.

As I tear the Washi to make threads, the words written in Sumi (Japan black ink) become hardly readable and the cloth shows an irregular design of Sumi made from the trace of words.

The texture of the cloth woven from Washi and silk together with unreadable words kindles one’s imagination.
